Tuberville: ‘Can we stop pretending this is an actual primary race and get to the business of defeating Joe Biden?’

Donald Trump overwhelmingly won the Iowa caucuses on Monday night in the biggest indication yet the former president is on a fast track to securing the GOP nomination in the 2024 race to the White House.

At time of post, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley are still in the mix for a second-place finish — but the decisive returns across Iowa have already handed many observers the answer they expected for the GOP primary as a whole: Trump faces no serious competition.

Among those ready for everyone to face reality is U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville.

Tuberville (R-Auburn) made the reflection on his campaign social media account, which is capable of taking bigger swings than official handles, frequently elevating pro-Trump messages.

Tuberville’s loyalty to Trump has stood the test of time since their initial alliance during the 2020 campaign. While the senior senator from Alabama isn’t on the ballot in 2024, the former president is and quickly picked up Tuberville’s endorsement. Last year, Tuberville introduced Trump at the Alabama Republican Party’s summer dinner, which yielded a record fundraising haul.

Tuberville placed the blame of Trump’s recent legal woes on a politicized justice system:

“It just shows you what the Democrats are doing,” Tuberville said.

“They’re weaponizing everything they possibly can to bring this president down, to keep the Republicans from gaining control again – because they know when we gain control, their shenanigans, and their circus is over with – and they’re gonna do everything they possibly can.”

In Iowa on Monday night, Trump greeted a crowd with the forward-facing rhetoric he’s used recently as he prepares to take on President Joe Biden in November.

“We were a great nation three years ago and today people are laughing at us,” Trump said.
