U.S. Sens. Tommy Tuberville and Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) are backing legislation that would bar biological men from joining the Daughters of the American Revolution, pushing back on the group’s recent move to open membership to biological men.

The Daughters of the American Revolution Membership Integrity Act, introduced by U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.), would amend the DAR’s federal charter to add an eligibility requirement limiting membership to women who otherwise meet the organization’s existing genealogical and membership standards.

“There’s a reason the founders of this group named it the DAUGHTERS of the American Revolution,” Tuberville (R-Auburn) said. “They had the common sense to recognize what a woman is, unlike the woke Left that apparently doesn’t understand the differences between female and male anatomy. Alabama has over 4,000 members in the DAR, and they shouldn’t have to be putting up with this woke nonsense. Amending the eligibility requirements to reflect the founders’ vision is something all of my colleagues should be able to get behind.”

Britt said the bill is about protecting the spaces the DAR was built for in the first place.

“The Daughters of the American Revolution are called ‘Daughters’ for a reason—this organization is meant to honor the legacy of American women and their ancestors, not pander to a distorted sense of reality manufactured by far-left radical Democrats,” said Sen. Britt. “Whether in women’s locker rooms or time-honored organizations like DAR, it is our job to protect women and girls in spaces that are rightfully theirs. I’m proud to cosponsor this commonsense legislation.”

The bill follows the DAR’s adoption of a nondiscrimination provision that current leadership has interpreted as allowing biological males to become members.

Blackburn said the organization’s founders would be appalled at what it’s become.

“The Daughters of the American Revolution was founded by women for women, and its founders would be appalled that the organization is now allowing biological males to become members and undermine the legacy of real women who helped build our nation,” Blackburn said. “The Daughters of the American Revolution Membership Integrity Act would amend the DAR’s federal charter to stop the organization from erasing biological reality and ensure it is reserved for the real daughters of the American Revolution.”

U.S. Sens. Kevin Cramer (R-N.D.) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) also signed on as cosponsors. U.S. Rep. Ben Cline (R-Va.) introduced companion legislation in the House earlier this month, and Alabama Reps. Gary Palmer (R-Hoover) and Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville) have signed on as cosponsors.

Heritage Action, Concerned Women for America Action Committee, the American Principles Project, Independent Women and the Alliance Defending Freedom have all endorsed the bill.
