The Auburn Corner: All of the sudden, Tigers have everything in front of them

Auburn Football/X

The Auburn Tigers are coming off their biggest win in a decade, winning in Sanford Stadium for the first time since 2005 and in the process … taking down the No. 1 team in the country in the Georgia Bulldogs.

It’s a victory that not a whole lot of folks saw coming based on what the season has been for these two teams, but if college football has proven anything this year, it’s that predicting things to work out normally is a flawed strategy. The SEC has been a chaos carousel of unpredictability so far this year, and the Tigers are just the latest team to add to it this past weekend.

While it may have seemed that all was lost headed into the bye for Auburn, somehow, this team still has everything in front of it the rest of the way with a record of 4-2 and opportunities for victories. It starts this week with a ranked LSU Tigers team coming into Jordan-Hare Stadium in a game which all of the sudden looks a whole lot more winnable than it did a week ago with Auburn being a slight underdog.

If Alex Golesh could find a way to pull another upset, the Tigers will break into the top-25 at 5-2 with a road trip to Ole Miss the following week.

None of this is to say Auburn is going to win out and make a run at the College Football Playoff. However, a season that looked like it would be another disappointing one has all of the sudden has life and conceivably could go any number of ways.

Eight or nine wins is very much on the table, and an Iron Bowl matchup on the road against Alabama – which once seemed like a guaranteed loss on the schedule – all of the sudden could be much more of a toss up than anyone expected it to be.

The future is now for the Auburn Tigers, and while it seemed like they would be clawing just to make a bowl game once again, Alex Golesh has absolutely raised the bar. Tigers fans are excited, and they should be. If this team can find a way to reach another gear and keep getting even better, the sky could be the limit for just how much success they can experience this year.

It all starts this week, but it’s safe to say Golesh has re-calibrated the expectations of the fanbase with just one victory and proven to them that he was the right man for the job.
