A Dothan teenager has been charged as an adult after another juvenile was shot while the pair was recording an amateur music video, according to Dothan Police Chief William E. Benny.

The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 400 block of Donna Drive. Officers responded after the Dothan Communications Center received a report of a person who had been shot.

When officers arrived, they found a teenager under the age of 18 suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Officers provided emergency medical care until Dothan Fire medics arrived and took over treatment.

The victim was transported to a local hospital and is expected to be transferred to another hospital for additional treatment. Police said the injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

As investigators processed the scene, they learned the victim and another teenager had been recording an amateur music video that involved using a real, loaded firearm as a prop.

According to investigators, the suspect discharged the firearm during the recording, striking the victim.

The suspect fled the scene after the shooting but was later located at apartments on South Ussery Street, where officers took the juvenile into custody without incident.

Police said the suspect has been charged as an adult with first-degree assault and booked into jail.

Because both the victim and suspect are juveniles, authorities said Alabama law prevents the release of additional identifying information.
