Monday, Republican U.S. Senate hopeful Mike Durant announced that rock star and Second Amendment enthusiast Ted Nugent had endorsed his candidacy.
In announcing his endorsement of Durant, Nugent called the former U.S. Army veteran a “warrior for freedom” and advised that the first-time candidate was a “strict constitutionalist.”
“Mike Durant is the warrior for freedom that America needs now more than ever,” declared Nugent. “A strict constitutionalist that stands for God, family, country, freedom, and law & order, the Nugent family supports this great man.”
While stating his intentions to take aim at “career politicians,” Durant made mention of his prior military service and career in the private sector.
“I’m humbled to have Ted Nugent’s support for our campaign as we fight to take back our country from career politicians. The last thing Alabama needs is another career politician who has never held a real job a day in their life,” proclaimed Durant. “Like President Trump, I’m an outsider. I’ve built a career in business and served our country in the Army. Now, I’m signing up for one more tour to beat the career politicians and stand up to Joe Biden’s incompetent administration.”
Nugent last September endorsed former U.S. Senate hopeful Jessica Taylor, who dropped out of the race last month and lent her support to Durant’s candidacy.
Republicans will head to the polls on May 24, 2022, to cast their ballots in the primary election.
