Strong backs Schiff, Swalwell removal from intel panel

This week, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) expelled Reps. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) and Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) from the House Intelligence Committee.

“It is my assessment that the misuse of this panel during the 116th and 117th Congress severely undermined its primary national security and oversight missions – ultimately leaving our nation less safe,” McCarthy said.

Wednesday, Rep. Dale Strong (R-Huntsville) discussed his support for McCarthy’s actions on WVNN’s “The Yaffee Program.”

“100%, you look at what Eric Swalwell did. He was one of these that was in a relationship with a Chinese spy, and he wants to be on intelligence for America?” Strong said. “And then you go down to Schiff. How many lies did he tell the American people? FBI, CIA were all saying that it was lies.

“And then you’re sitting here with Ilan Omar who wants to be on (foreign) affairs and she’s sitting here making verbal threats toward Israel. I mean it’s just unacceptable.”

The freshman congressman said McCarthy has support from the whole party when it comes to this issue.

“I was in a conference meeting today, early this morning with the leader and with all the Republican members of Congress and, I’ll be honest with you, I don’t think anybody questions what he’s doing there,” Strong said.

He said it’s just common sense to not let these individuals near these specific committees.

“You look at Eric, he’s one of these individuals that couldn’t get a top secret clearance in the real world,” Strong said. “And why would you want to give somebody that would be denied a top secret clearance if they worked in a company that needed one, and yet as a member of Congress they’re going to give him one?

“No, I don’t think that works and I think it’s a threat to national security of our country.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies (D-N.Y.) is still recommending Schiff and Swalwell to be on the Intelligence Committee, but Strong said the Republicans won’t let that happen.

“I don’t think that’s going to cross the border because we’re going to stop that,” he said.
