Sister Schubert’s sausage wrap rolls, baked in Luverne since 1994, are coming back to grocery shelves, and Governor Kay Ivey is the one who pried the answer loose.
The announcement came Saturday at the Business Council of Alabama’s Government Affairs Conference at the Grand Hotel, during a business recruiting panel moderated by Paul Finebaum.
Clarence Mingo, Marzetti’s vice president of corporate affairs and government relations, took an audience question posted on the ballroom screen from “Kay I. from Camden.”
“Look, we all love AND MISS Sister Schubert’s sausage wrap rolls,” the question read. “How quickly can we get those back on the shelves?”
The executive confirmed the rolls are returning and had samples passed through the room.
State Rep. Ginny Shaver (R-Leesburg) posted photos from the audience.
“Christmas has not been the same since they’ve been out of production since 2021,” she wrote.
Marzetti pulled the wrap rolls in 2021 and replaced them with sausage pinwheels.
The swap drew a Change.org petition that topped 12,000 signatures, backlash across the South, as evidenced in Southern Living and Garden & Gun coverage at the time.

Patricia “Sister Schubert” Barnes started the brand in a Troy church kitchen in 1989 and opened the Luverne plant five years later. It is still the company’s flagship bakery.
