If a military project has been federally funded the past two years, it’s likely Congressman Shomari Figures (D-Mobile) voted against it.

On Wednesday, Yellowhammer News reported on yet more funding Figures took credit for after voting against.

A further search through Figures’ voting record revealed another major tranche of money Figures opposed — this time, for Alabama’s military installations.

Figures on November 12, 2025, voted against final passage of H.R.5371, which included the Fiscal Year 2026 Military Constructions, Veterans Affairs and Related Agencies Appropriations Act. This came after Figures voted against initial House passage of the same bill on September 19, 2025, before the bill went to the Senate.

Included in the funding bill was $169.4 million for projects at Alabama military installations, as Alabama Daily News previously reported.

In Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District, that included a total of $28.4 million for five different projects at Fort Rucker and $4 million for Maxwell Air Force Base.

Figures also voted against the annual appropriations bill funding Military Construction and Veterans Affairs for Fiscal Year 2025, H.R.1968.

In addition, Figures in July 2026 voted against the House version of the Fiscal Year 20207 National Defense Authorization Act, H.R. 8800. That bill authorizes $44 million for an addition to an elementary and middle school at Maxwell Air Force Base and $65 million to restructure the Military Housing Privatization Initiative for the Air Education and Training Command.

Figures will face Republican nominee Rhett Marques at the ballot box this coming Tuesday, November 3.
