Sewell mum on whether she will support Pelosi for House speaker

Congresswoman Terri Sewell (AL-7) so far has remained silent on whether she will support House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for speaker when the Democratic Caucus votes on their nominee November 28.

Yellowhammer News’ email to Sewell’s spokesperson requesting comment on her intentions has gone unanswered.

Democratic opponents to Pelosi’s bid to return as speaker claimed on Wednesday that they have enough votes to block her on the House floor in January, while Pelosi remains confident that she will be the next Speaker regardless of this vocal minority within her own party.

Per Alabama Today, Sewell is herself running for a leadership position within the House Democratic Caucus, seeking the role of Caucus Leadership Representative for members who have served five terms or less in Congress.

Sewell was first elected in 2010 and faced no opposition in her bid for re-election to a fifth term this year. She currently serves as vice chair of the New Democrat Coalition, as a Chief Deputy Whip for the House Democratic Caucus, as a member of the Steering and Policy Committee and as co-chair of the Voting Rights Caucus.
