Alabama-based, nationally-syndicated talk radio hosts Rick Burgess and Bill “Bubba” Bussey have never been shy about sharing their frustrations with President Barack Obama, but the President’s comments on the 50th anniversary of A Charlie Brown Christmas almost sent the “two sexiest fat men alive” completely over the edge.

On Monday night, ABC aired a celebration of the Charlie Brown Christmas special’s golden anniversary, which included performances by numerous pop stars. But the biggest special guests of the night were President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.

When asked what he thought A Charlie Brown Christmas is really about, the President responded with a single sentence that alluded to his environmental agenda, but did not include a single word about what Christians refer to as the true “reason for the season.”

“They teach us that tiny trees just need a little love,” President Obama said, “and that on this holiday we celebrate peace on Earth and goodwill toward all.”

After reading the President’s remarks, Burgess was so unnerved that he had trouble sitting still in his chair.

“Like we haven’t seen it! What kind of crazy man is running the free world?” He exclaimed. “He’s crazy. I don’t care what your political leanings are. Is there anybody… who likes to be talked to like they’re an idiot?

“No, that’s not what it’s about,” he continued, responding directly to President Obama’s comments. “What A Charlie Brown Christmas is about is teaching you that we’ve lost the real meaning of Christmas, which is Jesus Christ was born — that God came as a baby. Linus gives the whole speech!”

Burgess then played the short clip of Linus explaining what Christmas — and the Charlie Brown Christmas special — are really about:

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them. And they were sore afraid.

And the angel said unto them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men.”

That’s what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.

According to Burgess, Charlie Brown creator Charles Schulz actually explained during an interview in the 1960s that his purpose for creating the Christmas special was to use the characters to encourage viewers to shun secularization and consumerism and return to the Biblical story of Christmas.

“I’m so sick of being talked to like I’m some idiot,” Burgess concluded. “Global warming is our problem? Gun control? Charlie Brown, after fifty years, we all know it’s about a tiny tree? Are you kidding me? It’s been out there for fifty years!”

“Linus has got it, and the President doesn’t,” added Bubba.

“A savior is born. We have to answer the question, why do we need a savior?” He continued. “We don’t need saving from family get-togethers. We don’t need saving from little Christmas trees. Little Christmas trees haven’t hurt anybody that I’m aware of… But if we need a Savior, why do we need a Savior? And that’s all I’m asking you to investigate today, why.”
