According to the Guardian, Sen. Doug Jones (D-Mountain Brook) is not happy with the supplemental FBI probe of Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
This comes after Jones told reporters on a Thursday conference call that he would review the report but, in all likelihood, still vote “no” on confirming the nominee.
The Guardian reported that Jones “found the FBI report ‘disappointing’ and, based on his long experience as a prosecutor, felt the agency had not been allowed to chase down leads it should have done.”
Of note, the Associated Press separately reported that Jones claimed Kavanaugh had not welcomed a full vetting of the allegations against him.
“The state’s junior senator said a ‘full and fair investigation’ would have come to conclusions about the accusations,” the AP wrote.
However, this runs contrary to the fact that FBI background checks do not reach conclusions. The standard accepted operating procedure is that the FBI interviews witnesses, gathers facts and then forwards their report to the constitutional decision makers – here, the White House and the United States Senate.
Reportedly, the FBI’s latest investigation into Kavanaugh did not corroborate either of his two serious accusers – Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Deborah Ramirez, respectively. The report has not been released to the public.
