Rep. Mike Rogers praises announcement of new Army headquarters in Poland

Wednesday, the Biden administration announced a new U.S. Army V Corps headquarters in Poland in a move to help bolster NATO security in the region as it continues to face threats from Russia.

The announcement was made as President Joe Biden attends this year’s NATO Summit in Madrid, Spain.

U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Saks), the lead Republican of the House Armed Services Committee, released a statement praising the move.

“I have repeatedly called on the Administration to have permanent basing in Eastern Europe to better deter Russian aggression,” Rogers said. “The United States’ announcement of a headquarters in Poland, and additional presence in Romania and the Baltics are good steps forward, but more needs to be done.”

He also emphasized that the other European countries in the region needed to step up as well.

“Additionally,” he continued, “deterring Russia in Europe cannot, and should not, fall predominantly on America’s shoulders. It is imperative that our NATO allies, particularly those in Western Europe, continue to increase their own defense spending as well.”
