On April 12, runners, walkers, and supporters will gather at the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama to take part in the annual Red Shoe Run: Rockin’ 5K, presented by McDonald’s. This worthwhile fundraising event will kick off at 8:00 a.m. at 1700 4th Ave S, Birmingham, AL, and will feature a fun-filled morning of community, music, and giving back.
The Red Shoe Run: Rockin’ 5K is more than just a race; it’s a celebration of family, fundraising, and community support. Organized to benefit the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Alabama, the event helps provide a home away from home for families with critically ill or injured children receiving medical care.
This year’s event aims to raise $35,000 to cover 233 nights of care for families in need. Participants can choose from a chip-timed 5K, a casual 1-mile Fun Run, or even support virtually through the ‘Snoozer’ option for those unable to attend in person.
Rock’ n’ roll costumes are encouraged, and participants are invited to showcase their creativity. Awards will be given for the best costume, largest team, top fundraiser, and best team spirit. Following the race, participants and supporters can enjoy a lively block party complete with music and festivities.
The race holds special meaning for families like the Ezelles of Fairhope, Alabama, who benefited from the Ronald McDonald House after their daughter Mary Catherine underwent open-heart surgery as a newborn. With the support of the House, the family had a safe and comforting place to stay close to their baby during her critical treatment.
Those looking to join the event can register online, sign up as volunteers, or become sponsors to help support families in need. Whether running, walking, or cheering from the sidelines, every participant plays a part in making a difference.
