Saturday evening was a big night for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama. The organization hosted its annual Pink Palace Casino Night to raise funds for lifesaving research across the state and managed to draw in over $130,000.

The event was attended by more than 200 people, including several breast cancer survivors. Guests got the chance to take part in casino gaming and a silent auction and enjoyed live music from II Da Maxx.

“The success of this event for the 17th occurrence is a testament to the support of our community,” said BCRFA Board Chair Gloria Buie. “The money raised will aid in funding breast cancer research and improving outcomes for those affected by the disease. We are grateful to each sponsor, donor, and attendee who contributed to this event. The night is over, but we, our community, will continue to make a difference, together.” 

President & CEO of BCRFA, Beth Davis, touched on the organization’s role in increasing the survival rate of those with cancer.

“The BCRFA invests in research and organizes fundraising events like the Pink Palace Casino Night because we are working to accelerate scientific progress toward a cure for breast cancer,” said Davis. “Our work remains important because it changes outcomes for the 1 in 8 women and 1 in 726 men who will be diagnosed with this disease. Through our commitment and dedication, the BCRFA is making a real difference in the fight against breast cancer.”

All proceeds from the event fund innovative breast cancer research at institutes from Huntsville to Mobile, including recent grants awarded to Birmingham’s O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, Huntsville’s HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology, and Mobile’s University of South Alabama Mitchell Cancer Institute.

After 17 years of gambling, gaming, and generosity, the event has raised a lifetime total of $1,180,000.
