Oliver’s brings authentic Chicago eats to the heart of Montgomery

A new restaurant in downtown Montgomery is creating a buzz by offering locals a taste of Chicago’s most beloved comfort foods. Oliver’s, located on South Court Street, specializes in authentic Windy City favorites such as Vienna Beef hot dogs served in poppy seed buns with traditional garnishes and Italian beef sandwiches topped with sweet or spicy peppers and drenched in savory au jus.

The restaurant is quickly becoming a hit with customers. One visitor described the Italian beef sandwich as the best around, recommending it dipped in au jus to fully capture the authentic Chicago experience. Another customer, originally from Chicago, said they were thrilled to find a spot that serves the familiar flavors they had been missing, making Oliver’s a comforting reminder of home. Both customers highlighted how the restaurant fills a unique gap in Montgomery’s dining scene.

Mike Oliver, the owner of Oliver’s, is a Chicago native who decided to open the restaurant after years of sharing his hometown dishes with friends.

“We’re bringing in as much as we can from Chicago—Vienna hot dogs, Italian beef, sausage, rolls, and poppy seed buns,” Oliver told WAKA Action 8 News.

His goal is to provide an authentic Chicago experience for everyone, not just those who grew up with it.

Oliver’s has also introduced a unique tradition of connecting patrons. Customers are invited to write their names and the cross streets of their Chicago neighborhoods on a door inside the restaurant. One diner described adding their street name as a sentimental experience that made them feel connected to both the restaurant and their roots.

In just a week, Oliver’s has become more than just a place to eat—it’s a gathering spot for sharing stories and memories.

For those craving a little taste of Chicago, Oliver’s is located at 31 S. Court Street in Montgomery. It’s open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Check them out on Facebook.
