The charitable campaign No Kid Hungry announced on Monday that 12 school districts in Alabama will be receiving financial support to aid their school meal programs.

No Kid Hungry, a project of the charity Share Our Strength, is dedicated to ending child hunger in America. The organization shared that one in four American children may face hunger amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In total, No Kid Hungry is sending $422,500 that will be split among 12 school systems across Alabama.

“These grants will help ensure students in Alabama continue to get the nutrition they need to learn,” said Eleni Towns, associate director for the No Kid Hungry campaign, in a statement.

Per a release from No Kid Hungry, the 12 grant recipients in Alabama are:

• Thomasville City Schools
• Escambia County School System
• Florence City Board of Education
• Geneva County Board of Education
• Winfield City Schools
• Clarke County Board of Education
• Cleburne County Schools
• Haleyville City Schools
• Coosa County School District
• Choctaw County Board of Education
• Montgomery Public Schools
• Marshall County School System

No Kid Hungry relayed that their donations are meant to supplement the efforts of school meal employees who have been forced to accommodate extraordinary circumstances amid the pandemic.

The charitable campaign offers an online map of free meal locations and noted that families in need can text FOOD or COMIDA to 877-877 to learn more about meal sites available near them.
