Keela Seawright, global accounts director of Medical Place, Inc., has been named to the board of the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences Foundation.

An alumna of Auburn University, Seawright has more than 20 years of business experience, specializing in international client relationships and strategic partnerships in the business founded 41 years ago by her father, Dr. Alfred Seawright. The Montgomery-based, family-owned company is a nationwide supplier of medical equipment and supplies.

Medical Place has provided funding to COVID-related research to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, as well as scholarships for college students.

“My father’s philosophy is to use your expertise and resources to help others,” Seawright explained. “I’m excited about bringing my experience in business and the medical field to the Foundation board to help create and sustain this amazing school for the people of Alabama.”

Seawright serves on the board of directors of the statewide Business Council of Alabama and the board of advisors for the Coalition for Government Procurement.

“We are really grateful Keela has agreed to serve on the ASHS Foundation Board of Directors,” said Kirk Stephens, chairman of the board. “Her knowledge, especially on the business side of healthcare, will be a meaningful addition to the conversations we have about building the Alabama School of Healthcare Sciences. Healthcare is a business, and having Keela’s input will help us make better decisions about the future of this school.”

ASHS will offer a STEMM (science, technology, engineering, math and medicine) based curriculum focused on healthcare. Through partnerships with regional and statewide health systems, educational institutions and communities, it will serve to alleviate the critical rural healthcare workforce shortage in Alabama while providing skilled professional training for in demand jobs to low-income youth.
