The City of Mobile will institute a general curfew at 7 p.m. Friday, taking Alabama’s Port City off the streets until 6 a.m. Saturday as Hurricane Isaias, a Category 3 storm with 120 mph winds, closes on the Alabama coast.

“We ask that residents find a safe place to ride out the storm and stay there, especially as conditions deteriorate throughout the day,” Mobile Mayor Spiro Cheriogotis said. “Our dedicated crews and public safety personnel stand ready to assist in clean-up efforts as soon as Isaias has safely passed through our area.”

City officials are asking residents to stay in their homes for the length of the curfew so first responders and city staff can safely reach affected areas and survey damage. The city expects the biggest impacts to be storm surge, rain and wind damage.

Isaias reached Category 3 strength Friday morning. The National Hurricane Center said “life-threatening storm surge and devastating winds” are likely along the coasts of Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Mobile County is under a hurricane warning, and storm surge warnings cover both Mobile and Baldwin counties. No commercial flights are leaving Mobile after 1 p.m. Friday.

The latest forecast favors landfall Friday evening along the extreme western Florida Panhandle, with the most destructive sustained winds expected east of Mobile County.

Governor Kay Ivey declared a state of emergency Wednesday for 40 Alabama counties, including Mobile and Baldwin.

“While we continue to monitor forecasts, we have to prepare now,” Ivey said.

Isaias is the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season. The Atlantic had not gone this deep into a season without a hurricane since 1905.

Mobile residents with an emergency should call 911. Storm debris, clogged storm drains and other city service issues go to 311, at 251-208-5311 or through the city’s web portal. The Mobile Police Department’s non-emergency line is 251-208-7211.
