Meta is launching a $1 billion fund to invest directly in data center communities including Montgomery, expanding the company’s commitment to support areas hosting its artificial intelligence infrastructure.

The new Future is for Everyone Fund will direct money toward local priorities including teachers, first responders, energy and water infrastructure and other community needs in areas where Meta owns and operates data centers.

The initiative was announced alongside a new essay from Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg outlining his vision for artificial intelligence development and the communities supporting it.

“Communities that host AI infrastructure should directly benefit from the investments those facilities generate,” the company said in announcing the initiative.

The fund builds on Meta’s existing community investments in Alabama, where the company is developing a major data center campus in Montgomery.

Meta said it has contributed more than $75 million to approximately 3,000 community projects supporting schools, nonprofits and other local organizations in communities where it operates data centers or has projects under development.

In Montgomery, the company has partnered with Montgomery Public Schools to support the district’s robotics initiative, providing students with opportunities to develop digital literacy and hands-on science and technology skills.

The Montgomery data center has grown into one of Meta’s largest Alabama investments. The company announced in 2025 that its investment in the campus had increased to more than $1.5 billion, bringing Meta’s total investment in its Montgomery and Huntsville data centers to more than $3 billion.

Zuckerberg said the new community fund is part of a broader vision for ensuring the economic and technological benefits of artificial intelligence are widely distributed.

“We propose a philosophy based on individual empowerment as the source of prosperity, invention as the primary purpose of superintelligence, and balance of power as the foundation of safety,” Zuckerberg wrote.
