The latest batch of the College Football Playoff rankings came out on Tuesday night. To nobody’s surprise, the Alabama Crimson Tide remained ranked at No. 8 in the poll, with just one week of the regular season remaining.
In fact, the only major shakeup of any kind was Washington jumping over Florida State from No. 5 into the top four after a big road win for the Huskies over Oregon State.
While Alabama continues to play its best ball of the year, the Tide have not been able to ascend from that 8th spot, still sitting behind Oregon and Texas and the question remains whether or not chaos is needed to get Nick Saban’s group into the playoff.

Texas and the week-two loss at this point remains the big sticking point. ESPN’s Greg McElroy explained why Alabama cannot jump Texas unless the Longhorns were to lose a game:
“Texas beat Alabama. The results have to matter. We have to respect the results. If the committee were to create a precedent by putting Bama in over Texas, that would be doing the college football world a disservice,” McElroy said.
“You have to acknowledge the regular season, and by putting Bama ahead of Texas, you’d be saying the regular season does not matter, and that’s not a precedent you want to set.”
