Congressman Michael McCaul of Texas has been elected by the House Republican Steering Committee to be Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee.
Alabama Congressman Mike Rogers and Michigan Congresswoman Candice Miller were also in the running. In the end, the massive Texas delegation, which will have 24 Representatives in the 113th Congress, proved to be too strong to overcome.
The race was extremely close. Miller dropped out after the first vote when she realized she didn’t have the necessary support. Multiple votes were then needed to break a tie between Rogers and McCaul, with McCaul coming out as Chairman in the end.
