Man arrested for threatening senator over ‘blocking promotions’

A New Hampshire man has been arrested for threatening an unnamed U.S. senator, according to recently released court documents.

According to the U.S. attorney’s office, Brian Landry of Franklin, N.H., was angry with the unidentified senator for “blocking military promotions.”

In a phone call on May 17, to one of the legislator’s district field offices, Landry allegedly left a voicemail which said, “Hey stupid, I’m a veteran sniper. Unless you change your ways, I got my scope pointed in your direction and I’m coming to get you. You’re a dead man walking.”

Landry was located May 24 after authorities tracked his number.

During questioning about the message, Landry said he had made the call but didn’t remember what he had said during it. According to the office, Landry said he was “extremely angry with certain politicians over their handling of important entitlement programs for veterans.”

Landry, who is out on bail, has been charged with threatening to assault, kidnap, or murder a U.S. official. If convicted, he could spend 10 years in prison and have to pay a fine of up to $250,000.

He will appear before U.S. District Court in New Hampshire on July 12.
