Lt. Governor Ainsworth, Pro Tem Reed share excitement for The Saban Center after visit to Tuscaloosa

Alabama Lt. Governor Will Ainsworth and Alabama Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed visited with the legendary Nick and Terry Saban in Tuscaloosa on Thursday to continue momentum first publicly announced last March in Governor Kay Ivey’s 2023 State of the State Address.

The Saban Center, which will fittingly call Tuscaloosa home, will also serve a cornerstone of Alabama’s strategy to foster 21st-century jobs and workforce development: STEM education. Ainsworth and Reed shared excitement about those forthcoming developments after their visit with the Sabans, Tuscaloosa Mayor Walt Maddox and State Rep. Cynthia Almond (R-Tuscaloosa).

“The Saban Center will be the STEM hub for Alabama, and its work and presence will ensure we continue recruiting long-lasting, high-paying, 21st Century jobs for decades yet to come. Alabama is fortunate that God has blessed us with Nick and Terry Saban, a couple who has given our state more leadership, devotion, and prestige than we can ever repay,” Ainsworth said.

“The Saban Family’s generosity and support for Alabama’s children is incredibly inspiring, and Miss Terry and Coach Saban’s legacy extends far beyond the football field as true treasures of our state,” State Sen. Greg Reed (R-Jasper) said.

“The Saban Center will be a wonderful benefit to Tuscaloosa and West Alabama by investing in our families, students, and their teachers through academic support, STEM education, and arts participation. I could not be more excited about the impact it will make for Alabamians.”

The Saban Center, first announced last year prior to Saban’s decision to step down as head coach, is quickly materializing as the pinnacle impact project of a family who has historically made dynamic contributions to the Tuscaloosa community, the University of Alabama, and those in need across Alabama.

The center’s future state-of-the-art facility is being designed to immerse students and educators from school districts across Alabama in hands-on learning experiences that will last long after their visit.
