Gubernatorial candidate Lindy Blanchard launched a new television advertisement criticizing Gov. Kay Ivey over taxpayer dollars funding a “transgender school.”
The school referenced in the 30-second tv spot is Magic City Acceptance Academy, which includes in its mission statement the intention of fostering a “brave learning environment and LGBTQ affirming culture for all.”
The Academy faced some backlash after pictures surfaced of a drag queen show being put on for students at the school.
Blanchard’s advertisement starts with a clip from one of Trump’s recent rallies where the former president said “no teacher should be allowed to teach transgender to our children.”

The video then blasts Ivey for not putting a stop to taxpayer funding for the school.
“Yet Kay Ivey is allowing Alabama tax dollars to be spent on schools designed specifically for transgender students,” says the narrator in the ad. “Ivey could have stopped funding the transgender school, but didn’t.”
The advertisement ends by explaining Blanchard’s position on the issue.
“Like Trump,” it continues, “Lindy Blanchard says no transgender education of minors. She’ll end funding for transgender schools, and put the money directly into the classroom.”
Blanchard also posted a statement about it on Twitter saying “Every child in Alabama deserves access to a world-class education that prioritizes outcomes over ideology.”
