Landon Collins is always ready to tackle somebody, but this weekend, he’s gunning for a family member.
Collins’ younger brother Gerald Willis is a freshman defensive lineman on Florida, who has also been seen on special teams. The two brothers have never played against each other, always playing on the same defense growing up, but they have been trash-talking this week leading up to the game Saturday.
“It’s just nothing but talking noise to each other, that’s about it,” Collins said. “I’m trying to get on kickoff return to see if I can block him one time.”
When Alabama kicks off, while the rest of the special teams will be headed toward the ball-carrier, Collins will be headed toward No. 92 in the Florida jersey, with no intention of hitting him gently.
“We’re going head first,” Collins said. “Just going at it with him. Hit him hard, there’s no letup.”
Collins said his mom, who will be in Tuscaloosa for the game, would not cheer for one son over the other.
“She’s not rooting for nobody,” he said. “She said she got a split household. She said she’s just going to be in the middle of the field and try to cheer for me and Gerald at the same time.”
Maybe their mom will have one of those halfway jerseys like Brady Quinn’s girlfriend and A.J. Hawk’s sister wore when Notre Dame played Ohio State, though, we all know the brothers’ mom is probably more concerned with the LSU game.
