Ole Miss head football coach Lane Kiffin has denied a report suggesting that he would soon depart Oxford in favor of Auburn.
Jon Sokoloff of WCBI TV in Columbus, Miss., tweeted Monday that Kiffin “plans to step down as the Rebels coach Friday and head to Auburn to become the Tigers next head coach, according to sources.”
In response, Kiffin rejected Sokoloff’s claim and facetiously said, “Nice sources.”
That’s news to me Jon. ?♂️. Nice sources ???? https://t.co/P8rdpxEk0p

Nearly an hour after his initial response to the report, Kiffin created a report of his own suggesting that Sokoloff would leave his current employer for another news outlet.

Over the past two weeks, Kiffin has been rumored to be the leading candidate to become the next head coach at Auburn.
The interim Tigers head coach, Cadillac Williams, appears to have injected renewed energy into the struggling football program. The former AU standout running back is 2-1 thus far as head coach at the Plains.
Auburn will face No. 8 Alabama Saturday in Tuscaloosa for the 87th Iron Bowl meeting. The game will air on CBS at 2:30 p.m.
For his part, Kiffin will lead the No. 20-ranked Rebels into the Egg Bowl against Mississippi State in Oxford.
