Katie Britt: Every cabinet pick deserves to make their case because ‘Donald Trump has a mandate’

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) believes that President-Elect Donald Trump’s nominees for cabinet positions should have a fair hearing during the confirmation process.

Trump has announced several of his choices for different cabinet positions in his administration, including some very controversial choices like U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) for U.S. Attorney General. Britt discussed the issue Friday during WVNN’s “The Dale Jackson Show.”

“Donald Trump has a mandate,” Britt said. “And it’s not just in states where you would expect. I mean, you start to look at states where Donald Trump, or Republicans in general, had not done well since 1988 essentially…And so at the end of the day, he’s got that mandate, and he’s excited to get his team in place. And so how I will approach all of these nominees is just to make sure and know that the President needs to be able to appoint his team, and then we’re going to have to let them go through the process.”

Britt said she will listen to each of the nominees make their case.

“I think every nominee deserves that opportunity to make their case and to explain their plan, to explain their philosophy,” she said, “to answer questions and and to say, ‘Hey, this is how I’m going to execute the responsibilities that have been given to me by the President, and this is what I’m going to do for the office that I’ve been nominated.’ And each and every one of them will go through that.”

Britt also said she hopes they will be able to confirm Trump’s nominees as quickly as possible.

“We believe we have to get working,” she said. “You know, January 3 we are sworn in, and that is the day that we have to get working, starting to have these hearings. And so I think it will be interesting to watch this. Let’s see whose hearings are scheduled and for when. This will be a real test, obviously, to see how much we can get done before Trump is sworn in, so that then we can have those votes immediately after and get his cabinet in place so that he can actually get his agenda moved forward. So we will see. There are certainly a lot of opinions, but I am committed to the process, and certainly look forward to getting his cabinet filled and, you know, getting to work.”
