Join the 28th annual Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament

Golfers, it’s time to swing into action for a great cause! The Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama (BCRFA) is gearing up for the Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament, their signature fundraising event, taking place on Monday, May 15, at the picturesque Old Overton Club in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.

Since its inception in 1996, the Drive-Out Breast Cancer Golf Tournament has raised more than $2.5 million to fuel breast cancer research in Alabama, and this year is no different. All proceeds from the tournament will be invested in the most innovative breast cancer research happening across the state.

Drive-Out began as a was a way for its founders Dolly O’Neal and Bruce Sokol to fight back against breast cancer, a disease to which both had personal ties. Dolly was an 18-month breast cancer survivor and Bruce’s wife D.D. was undergoing breast cancer treatment at the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. The first tournament raised $68,000 and was the stepping stone to Bruce and Dolly’s co-founding of the BCRFA.

The BCRFA has since invested nearly $14 million in Alabama-based breast cancer research, with an investment of $1.275 million in 2022.

“Breast cancer death rates have dropped ten percent over the last twenty years thanks to research,” said Beth Davis, BCRFA President & CEO. “This progress fuels hope and encourages us to remain steadfast in our mission to eliminate breast cancer. Funds raised by Drive-Out will spur new discoveries and allow researchers across the state to seize new opportunities that ultimately lead to more lives saved.”

Tournament registration opens at 10:30 AM, then players can stop by the driving range and grab a boxed lunch. The shotgun start will take place at 12:00 PM and the awards reception will follow play. SoulGrown, with Yellowhammer Multimedia, is a proud sponsor of this year’s tournament.

Located in the heart of the Liberty Park Community, the world-class gold course at Old Overton Club is a beautiful backdrop for a day of fun and philanthropy.
