If you want to get people vaccinated, focus on the data and stop the vitriol

It should come as no surprise that America’s only TV doctor, Anthony Fauci, would be asked about his thoughts on Alabama Governor Kay Ivey’s terse words for the unvaccinated.

Fauci said, “I can totally understand the governor’s frustration. So I don’t have any problem with that; she has every right to be frustrated.”

It should also come as no surprise that he thinks those words were fine.

I personally don’t see much issue with them either, but I don’t really think they are all that helpful in moving people to get vaccinated.

Shame doesn’t really seem to be working.

What I have heard is that people who are worried about the Delta variant are looking more seriously at being vaccinated. They have learned that it is more spreadable and that those dying are largely unvaccinated. The facts are simple to share, and the argument is easy to make.

Maybe less vinegar and more honey could be a play.

I’ve made the argument for incentives, which Governor Ivey doesn’t like, but the Alabama Department of Corrections is using them.

When Fauci was commenting on Ivey’s remarks, he also made an odd comment that the media seems to think is the most important thing the average Alabamian and unvaccinated American needs to hear.

Fauci wants more politicians to speak out about getting vaccinated saying he “would really like to see is more and more of the leaders in those areas that are not vaccinated to get out and speak out to encourage people to get vaccinated.”

But that has already happened.

Governor Ivey obviously did.

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has.

Lieutenant Governor Will Ainsworth has.

What about Alabama’s most famous resident?

Alabama head coach Nick Saban has,  as well.

And, believe it or not, so has former President Donald Trump.

These people that Fauci and the media are targeting, implying they have been silent, have been saying this for months and have never been ant-vaccine.

Unlike Vice President Kamala Harris, who is now all in after raising questions early on.

Again, this stuff is only so effective, and it is probably played out.

It is probably time to stop blaming the people you disagree with for a virus that appears to have started in China. Slamming the sick and promoting monsters doesn’t seem to work.

Let’s start focusing on the data to convince people why getting vaccinated is good for them, but let’s stop trying to pretend those who choose not to get vaccinated are the most terrible people in society because that won’t work.
