This week, the University of Alabama announced that legendary play-by-play man Eli Gold would miss the beginning of this year’s football season due to health issues.
Upon learning the news, the Crimson Tide community and Gold’s media colleagues gave their best wishes and prayers to the long-serving voice of Alabama football.
An effort is now underway to collect get well cards for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame inductee. Ryan C. Fowler, host of sports talk radio show Tide 100.9 FM Tuscaloosa’s “The Game,” is leading a drive to collect the cards.
In a series of tweets, Fowler said that he decided to gather the cards after fielding a great deal of calls inquiring about Gold.
“I have received so many calls this week asking me about Eli, I thought this would be an easy way to let Eli know how much we care about him,” wrote Fowler.
“So, I decided to ask my boss, David Dubose, about doing a get well card drive for Eli Gold to help him. He said absolutely, thought it was a great idea. Thank you, David,” he added. “Maybe we can help encourage him to improve his health and his spirits with a simple card or note.”
“We can also let Eli know how much he means to the Bama nation,” the host continued. “Tide 100.9/95.3 The Bear are the flagship stations for the Crimson Tide Sports Network. We will accept the cards at our office and then we will take them to Eli Gold.”
“I hope you will help us by sending a card to Eli Gold with a quick word of encouragement,” finished Fowler.
Get well cards may be mailed or delivered to the following address:
