‘How many more records do we have to break’ for Biden to address migrant crisis? Alabama GOP officials ask

Alabama’s congressional officials are ramping up pressure against President Joe Biden for the continuing crisis at the U.S. southern border.

According to Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), there were a record 302,000 encounters with migrants at the border in December, which includes 250,000 apprehensions of illegal immigrants.

“Encounter numbers continue to fluctuate, as smugglers and bad actors continue to spread falsehoods and show complete disregard for the safety and wellbeing of vulnerable migrants,” CBP said in a statement. “We remain vigilant and stand ready to ensure safety of our personnel, migrants, and local communities, and the security of our southwest border.”

U.S. Rep. Barry Moore (R-Enterprise) reacted to the numbers and reiterated his call to secure the border.

U.S. Rep. Jerry Carl (R-Mobile) said Democrats need to pass HR2 in the Senate in order to help “end the crisis.”

U.S. Rep. Robert Aderholt (R-Haleyville), who is planning on visiting the border with Speaker Mike Johnson Wednesday, argued that American should be deeply concerned about national security because of the open border.

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) pointed out that this is a 308% increase in illegal borer crossings since Biden was inaugurated.

She also called for an end to “catch and release” of illegal immigrants in the U.S.

There have been more than 785,000 migrant encounters since October 1st, the beginning of the fiscal year, which is also a record.
