Republican candidate for State Auditor Derek Chen has launched a new statewide television effort as part of his Derek Chen State Auditor ad campaign ahead of the May 19 Republican primary, according to a campaign announcement released Monday.
The 30-second ad, titled “One of Us,” is set to begin airing today in targeted media markets across Alabama, with a reported buy totaling $173,000 per week across broadcast and streaming platforms.
According to the campaign, the spot features a series of supporters emphasizing Chen’s outsider background and his focus on protecting taxpayers and reducing costs for Alabama families.
The ad also highlights Chen’s support for President Donald Trump and his commitment to working with U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville to move Alabama forward.
“This ad is another step in getting our message out across Alabama,” said Chen. “People are tired of do-nothing politicians and want someone who will take the job seriously, look out for taxpayers, and support President Trump and Coach Tuberville’s agenda to bring costs down.”
Chen’s campaign said he earned his undergraduate degree from Hope College, his law degree from Cumberland School of Law, and an MBA from the University of Alabama. He has also practiced law in Jefferson County.
The campaign also said Chen is the son of legal immigrants from Taiwan who fled the threat of Communist China and that he credits his family’s story with shaping his belief in freedom, accountability, and responsible government.
Chen is running against incumbent State Auditor Andrew Sorrell, who is seeking his second term to the office, in the May 19 GOP primary, now less than a month away.
