Former UA running back Brian Robinson, Jr. ‘in good spirits’ after being shot in attempted carjacking

Former University of Alabama running back Brian Robinson, Jr. is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries he sustained while being shot in an attempted armed robbery or carjacking.

According to the Washington Times, authorities are in search of two suspects who fled the scene at the 1000 block of H St. in Washington, D.C. Robinson was reportedly shot twice in his lower extremities.

The Washington Commanders, who selected Robinson in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, released a statement late Sunday detailing that team representatives were at the hospital with the rookie running back while he recovered.

Commanders head coach Ron Rivera also took to Twitter Sunday night to advise that Robinson was “in good spirits” and expressed that the player looked forward to hitting the field with his teammates upon recovery.

“I just got done visiting [with] Brian. He is in good spirits and wanted me to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers & support,” wrote Rivera. “He wants his teammates to know he appreciates them all for reaching out and he loves them all & will be back soon doing what he does best.”

The Tuscaloosa native, a former four-star recruit from Hillcrest High School, played for the Crimson Tide from 2017 to 2021. UA reached the national championship game a total of four years, of which they won two, during Robinson’s tenure at The Capstone.

During his college career, Robinson rushed for 2,704 yards in 545 carries and racked up 29 touchdowns on the ground, averaging five yards per rush. In his senior year, Robinson was recognized with first-team All-SEC honors.

Upon being selected 98th overall in this year’s draft, the Commanders signed Robinson to a four-year rookie contract.
