Former Tide legend Justin Thomas ends PGA drought with RBC Heritage victory

The Alabama Crimson Tide has long been a pipeline to the PGA Tour, but no former Tide golfer has made Tuscaloosa prouder than two-time major champion Justin Thomas.

Thomas ascended to become the No. 1 player in the world in 2018 less than a year after winning his first major in the 2017 PGA Championship and maintained his status as one of the best on the planet for the five years between his first and second major in 2022.

After winning his second PGA Championship in 2022 however, Thomas has been in a drought since and though he returned over the last year from some dreadful play in the year prior, he had not won a PGA event since his 2022 triumph.

That all changed this weekend when Thomas claimed victory at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina with a clutch long birdie putt to claim a victory in a playoff over Andrew Novak:

The win clearly meant a ton to Thomas after not finding his way into the winner’s circle for over 1,000 days and was also his first victory since becoming a father as he shared an emotional moment with his family:

The victory for Thomas is his 16th on the PGA Tour and his first at this event.

Now that Thomas has completed his comeback from the depths of professional golf in the last two years, he will have three more chances this year to add a third major to the resume with the PGA Championship coming up next month at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, the U.S. Open in June at Oakmont in Pennsylvania, and the Open Championship in July at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.
