Mobile County Commissioner Connie Hudson has filed official paperwork to run for Mayor of Mobile in 2025 following Sandy Stimpson announcing his decision to not seek another term earlier this year.
Hudson submitted her principal campaign committee form on December 6 and transferred $158,207.17 from her county commission campaign fund into her new mayoral committee on December 12, according to filings with the Alabama Secretary of State.
When reached for comment Tuesday by WPMI 15 News, Hudson said she would “have a lot to say after the first of the year,” but has not made any formal announcement regarding her candidacy.
Hudson has served as County Commissioner since 2010 and previously spent nine years on the Mobile City Council. Her candidacy has been widely speculated since Mayor Sandy Stimpson announced he would not seek a fourth term.

The filing comes just weeks after Hudson began a new term, having run unopposed in the 2024 election cycle.
With Stimpson’s decision not to seek a fourth term, Mobile’s 2025 mayoral race is drawing a diverse group of potential candidates. The changing demographics of Mobile add a layer of complexity: According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the city’s population has shifted from 51.3% white and 46.6% Black in 2000 to 40.4% white and 53.1% Black in 2020.
