Dadeville Police Chief Jonathan Floyd asked the public for their patience and prayers, stating this tragedy is not reflective of the community.
“This is a tight-knit community full of wonderful people,” Floyd said. “Do not let this moment define what you think about the City of Dadeville and our fine people.”
Tallapoosa County Superintendent Raymond Porter echoed the sentiment while assuring parents that counseling resources for all children will be made available as soon as tomorrow.
“This does not represent our community, it does not represent our children and it does not represent who we are,” said Porter. “We will make every effort to comfort those children and we will not loose site that those are the ones most impacted by this situation. We also ask local clergy to reach out to those families and help them through this difficult time.”
Dadeville is a community of just under 3,000 and is the county seat of Tallapoosa County.
Gov. Kay Ivey issued a statement in response to the event Sunday morning.
This morning, I grieve with the people of Dadeville and my fellow Alabamians. Violent crime has NO place in our state, and we are staying closely updated by law enforcement as details emerge.
