Crimson Tide, Tigers could face off in national championship game

The No. 1 overall seed Auburn Tigers and the No. 2 seed in the East Region, Alabama Crimson Tide, are set to embark on their respective NCAA Tournament journeys.

Auburn, who has been arguably the best team in the sport throughout the season, is seen as a possible favorite to win the whole thing despite some early-round struggles in recent years.

Since making the Final Four in 2019, Bruce Pearl’s Tigers have not made it past the second weekend of the tournament and have suffered some ugly upset losses en route to where they are now.

On the other hand, Alabama is trying to make a return trip to the biggest stage in the sport after making an unlikely run last year. While the Tigers are one of the favorites, the Tide is not quite facing the same level of expectations. Nonetheless, Alabama is one of the better teams in the country and is expected to make some sort of run.

With both teams in the tournament on opposite sides of the bracket, an unlikely scenario could unfold that would thrill fans throughout the state. Theoretically, the Tigers and Tide could be on their way to a match-up in the national championship.

A lot would have to happen in order for the wild possibility to play out, namely each not only making a Final Four – something both have done just once in program history – but also winning their semifinal game once they get there – something which neither program has ever accomplished.

As unlikely as this may seem, both programs have never been as good at the same time as they are right now, this year. So while there is a long road to go until the two squads face off for all the marbles in San Antonio, it’s not out of the realm of possibility either.

There’s a ton of work to do for each in order to make it happen and they must take things one game at a time to avoid a major upset, but fans across the state will be watching each program with great anticipation to see whether the impossible can become possible.
