The Montgomery Police Department has launched a tasty new community building effort: cookie road blocks.

Chason Smitherman, a local videographer and founder of Grow 334, a group of “story tellers devoted to growing businesses in the Alabama River Region,” captured footage of the Montgomery PD dishing out Girl Scout cookies to unsuspecting drivers on the city’s west side.

“It’s always a good experience to interact with our community folks and giving something and making sure they’re the kings and queens and princesses and princes,” said Montgomery Police Chief Ernest Finley, Jr. “Just to give them something to make them feel wanted and loved. That’s what this is about — wanted and loved.”

If the video footage is any indication, it’s working.

“Thank you, we appreciate that,” exclaimed one surprised driver. “Keep up the good work.”

“We need this here. It brings us back together,” added another.

“On this side of my town, I’ve watched it change forever,” a longtime local resident said. “I’m glad it’s coming back around.”

“I think it’s awesome,” said another. “My kids are really going to love it.”
