A Birmingham television anchor closed her evening newscast with a bizarre shoutout to Hassan al-Banna, the man who founded the Muslim Brotherhood, an Islamist organization that was just branded a terrorist organization by the U.S. Treasury and State Departments.

The Muslim Brotherhood’s offshoots also include Hamas, a global terror group responsible for bombings, assassinations, and terrorist attacks worldwide.

Evening anchor Ashonti Ford signed off the ABC 33/40 broadcast saying, “Before we go, a quote from the founder of the Islamic Brotherhood: The quieter you become, the more you’re able to hear.”

Ford attributed the quote to Hassan al-Banna — the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt in 1928 — though it is more commonly attributed to figures like Rumi and Ram Dass.

The brotherhood started as a social and religious movement, but soon after began an underground “secret apparatus” group, whose goal was to eradicate British rule in Egypt. Over the years, individual brotherhood branches spawned — including Hamas — and have carried out violent attacks, assassinations and bombings.

This past January, U.S. Treasury and State departments designated the Lebanese, Jordanian, and Egyptian chapters as terrorist organizations.

“The Muslim Brotherhood has inspired, nurtured, and funded terrorist groups like Hamas, that are direct threats to the safety and security of the American people and our allies,” said Under Secretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence John. K. Hurley.

“Despite their peaceful public façade, both the Egyptian and Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood branches have conspired to support Hamas’s terrorism and undermine the sovereignty of their own national governments. This Administration will use all tools at our disposal to hold them accountable for the violence they have encouraged across the Middle East and the world in pursuit of their extreme version of Islam.”

The shoutout comes at a time of heightened scrutiny for groups and individuals who wish to impose Sharia Law on the United States, like the Muslim Brotherhood.

U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) and other members of Alabama’s congressional delegation are spearheading the issue of Islamist extremism in America.

Tuberville has introduced two bills to uproot the evils of Sharia Law, the No Sharia Act and the Preserving a Sharia Free America Act.
