Britt votes against confirmation of top Biden economist

U.S. Sen. Katie Britt joined the majority of her Republican colleagues in the Senate in voting against the confirmation of President Joe Biden’s nominee to chair the Council of Economic Advisors (CEA).

Jared Bernstein was confirmed on a 50-49 vote Tuesday, with Sen. Joe Manchin (W.Va.) being the lone Democrat voting against.

Britt (R-Montgomery) blamed Bernstein for helping cause the current inflation problem in the country.

“Make no mistake, Jared Bernstein has been one of the primary architects of the Biden Administration’s disastrous economic policies,” Britt said in a statement. “The last thing that he deserves is a promotion. While hardworking Americans are struggling to make ends meet amid persistent inflation, Dr. Bernstein has pledged to double down on the same reckless tax-and-spend policies that have caused crushing pain around kitchen tables nationwide.”

She believes this is reason enough for the Senate to oppose Bernstein’s nomination.

“The Senate should overwhelmingly reject this nomination,” she said, “and send a message to the White House that it’s past time to restore American energy dominance, slash burdensome regulations, lower taxes, and onshore good-paying jobs.”

Britt also posted the video of Bernstein’s Senate testimony from this year, using it as an example of why he was wrong about the threat of long-lasting inflation.

The senator said he should be fired for not admitting his mistake.

U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Auburn) was the sole Republican who didn’t participate in the confirmation vote because he joined former President Trump for an event at Bedminster Golf Club at the time of the vote.
