Senator Richard Shelby earlier this week held his 1,800th career town hall meeting. Since taking office in the Senate in 1987, Shelby has made an annual visit to each of Alabama’s 67 counties.
“26 years ago, I promised my constituents the opportunity to have their voices heard on Capitol Hill. Visiting each county in Alabama every year is invigorating and allows me to fulfill this important promise,” Shelby said in a statement. “While new media is a useful tool for communication, nothing can replace the value gained by interacting face-to-face with those whom I represent. As long as I am fortunate enough to serve the people of Alabama, I will continue to return to all 67 counties each year.”
The 1,800th meeting was held at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center in Florence, Alabama.
Shelby’s staff produced the below video earlier this year when he was approaching the 1,800 milestone.
