ALDEMS Maher Event Drawing Increasing Criticism

Bill Maher

Multiple national media outlets including The Daily Caller and National Journal are coming alongside a growing chorus of Alabamians who are disgusted by the Alabama Democratic Party’s choice to host a fundraiser featuring über liberal television host Bill Maher.

Maher has been heavily criticized for his comments about Sarah Palin who he has publicly referred to her as a “cunt” and a “dumb twat.” Still, the Alabama Democratic Party felt comfortable attaching their beleaguered brand to the radical-leftist HBO host.

The usual liberal hypocrisy is on full display as this event comes right in the middle of the left’s tirade against Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh called a Georgetown law student a “slut” for demanding contraception be provided to her free of charge. Limbaugh’s word choice was inappropriate and stupid. But I think Jim Geraghty of National Review perfectly summed up the left’s hypocrisy on this issue when he said, “Why is one acceptable, to the point where Maher is still welcome to headline fundraisers, but Rush is supposed to be persona non grata?”

Maher also recently donated $1 million to President Obama’s super PAC. Obama took the time to call and console the Georgetown law student who Limbaugh called a “slut,” but he won’t hesitate to accept money from anyone, including the misogynist Bill Maher, if it helps him buy the 2012 election.

It’s becoming next-to-impossible for the Alabama Democratic Party to distance themselves from the National Democratic Party which is woefully out of step with the values of most Alabamians.

Alabama Republican Party officials today released the following statements:

ALGOP Chairman Bill Armistead:

“Judge Kennedy has proven once again that he and the Alabama Democratic Party are completely out of touch with the values that Alabamians hold dear. He has chosen to have entertainer Bill Maher as their featured speaker at their Chairman’s Reception in Huntsville on March 17th. They couldn’t have chosen someone more capable of spewing vile and offensive rhetoric that denigrates women and people of faith. What is he thinking? How could he possibly promote someone with his hate-mongering track record? Judge Kennedy needs to cancel this event, repudiate Maher’s ridiculous and inflammatory statements and apologize to the people of Alabama for inviting a man of such low character to emit his provocative and disgusting rhetoric.”

Alabama’s Republican National Committeeman Paul Reynolds:

“At what point do we as true conservative Alabamians stand up and cry to the top of our voices: ‘the absurdity has to stop.’ The democrats expect us to look the other way when the major ‘anti-Christian’ voice in America comes to Alabama for a fundraiser. At the same time, they blast Rush Limbaugh, and other conservative talk show hosts, for pointing out the anti-American personal attack filth Maher spews out nightly. Is it possible to espouse Alabama values in one statement and embrace Bill Maher in another? I think all Alabamians know the answer to that one.”

Personally, I hope the Alabama Democratic Party under Judge Kennedy’s leadership continues to embrace the radical left — and leaves the governing to the conservatives.

…More soon. I’m heading to a Newt event in Birmingham.
