Birmingham’s biggest holiday tradition gets a festive new celebration at Regions Center on Friday

A beloved Birmingham holiday tradition will shine brighter than ever this year as Regions Bank hosts its first official building lighting ceremony. The event, open to the public, will take place Friday, November 29, at the Regions Center Plaza in downtown Birmingham.

The festivities kick off at 4:30 p.m — but be sure to be there in time for the ceremonial lighting at 5:15 p.m. — when the Regions Center will be illuminated with two massive Christmas trees, a festive wreath, and a colorful stocking on its 30-story facade. The iconic display has been a hallmark of the city’s holiday season for over 40 years, will light up the skyline nightly through New Year’s Day.

Hosted by Deno Posey, an executive vice president for Regions Bank, who also happens to be a well-known local comedian, there will be festivities, food trucks and more. The bank will celebrate the hard work and dedication of all associates who make this beautiful display an annual tradition.

Preparations for the lighting are no small feat. Crews meticulously install red, green, and white gel sleeves on window lights from the fifth to the 28th floors. Each fall, the display undergoes rigorous testing, with crews stationed throughout the city to ensure every detail matches the design. Any necessary adjustments are made before the official debut.

The event will be held at the Regions Center Plaza, located at the northwest corner of 5th Avenue North and 20th Street North.
