Birmingham, Alabama has been named the best city in the United States for single parent homeownership according to a ranking from The United Way of the National Capital Area as well as a story by AL.com.
The ranking grouped the 50 largest American cities and ranked them according to a number of factors including but not limited to single-parent homeownership rates, affordability of housing, access to FHA loans, childcare costs, and numerous other criteria.
According to the study, over 55 percent of single parents in Birmingham own homes, and the Magic City has “some of the most family-friendly financial advantages in the country” with low babysitting fees on average as well as low property taxes and overall low cost of living in general.
Alabama also gives out a high rate of federal assistance when it comes to purchasing a home with one of the highest rates of any state in the country when it comes to HUD loans for FHA home purchases.
Also ranking highly on the list in the South was New Orleans, LA (No. 3), Tampa, FL (No. 5), and Atlanta, GA (No. 6).
