Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin on Tuesday night was one of 17 “rising stars” who jointly delivered the 2020 Democratic National Convention’s keynote address.
The address, just like the rest of the convention, was delivered virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Magic City mayor filmed his portion of the address via a handheld camera, selfie-style, at the Yo’ Mama’s restaurant in downtown Birmingham.
The video address jumped back and forth between participants, with speakers at times finishing each other’s sentences.
Woodfin’s first individual involvement in the address was criticizing President Donald Trump’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, saying the president had “no plan” to deal with the virus outbreak.
“But there’s one person who’s looking out for us,” Woodfin later added, speaking of former Vice President Joe Biden, the Democratic nominee for president.
Several of the speakers highlighted the groundbreaking nature of their respective elections to public offices, including Woodfin being the youngest mayor of Birmingham in 120 years.
Woodfin said of his fellow Democratic leaders, “We have lived the grief of losing loved ones to gun violence, and a criminal justice system that unfairly targets our communities.”
He subsequently commented on some of the healthcare reforms Biden wants to enact, including expanding ObamaCare, “That’s a big f–ing deal.”

Woodfin endorsed Biden’s presidential bid relatively early in the Democratic primary process, towards the end of last year.
