HOMEWOOD, Ala. — Niche.com, a site that seeks to “make choosing a neighborhood, college, or K-12 school a more transparent process” by “providing reviews and insight from everyday experts,” recently released its 2016 list of best places to live in Alabama.

The city of Homewood nabbed to top spot in a top five dominated by Birmingham suburbs. Four of the top five – Homewood, Hoover, Vestavia Hills, and Mountain Brook – are all in the over-the-mountain area.

Homewood got an “A” or better rating in the areas of education/public schools, nightlife, and shortest commute. The only average or below grade the city received was a “C+” in cost of living.

To calculate the rankings, Niche accounted for several key factors, including the quality of local schools, crime rates, housing trends, employment statistics, and access to amenities in an attempt to measure the overall quality of an area.
