As reported by Bleacher Report, Alabama Basketball Coach Avery Johnson scored big for the Tide by picking up point guard Jared Butler.
Announcing his decision on Twitter, Butler was a highly sought-after prospect. According to 247Sports, he was the 89th overall recruit in the nation in the 2018 class and No. 15 among point guards.

Since taking over Alabama’s basketball program in 2015, Johnson has continuously added talent to the Tide’s roster. It’s evident he’s done that again with the addition of Butler.
A Louisiana native, Butler has made a name for himself as a guard who aggressively attacks defenses and who possesses the speed to keep them on their toes. While many view him as a bit undersized for his position, few dispute his ability to create open looks while “quarterbacking” offenses as a point guard.
In a statement to Scout’s Evan Daniels, Butler touched on his decision to join the Tide. “I’m headed to the University of Alabama, and I picked them because I talk to God a lot and my family a lot and we’ve spent months and days talking, and it seemed like the best situation and the best people,” said Butler.
Many predict this to be a breakout season for Alabama. Avery has had the time necessary to build his own program, and Butler will help add depth to the Tide’s roster.
