Auburn graduate killed in New Orleans terror attack – ‘Senseless tragedy’

In the wake of a deadly terrorist attack that has claimed the lives of 15 so far, Auburn University announced a recent graduate, Drew Dauphin, was among those killed. The message of grief came after the University of Alabama announced freshman student Kareem Badawi was also killed in the attack.

Auburn University President Christopher Roberts mourned the loss of Dauphin.

“On behalf of Auburn University, I send my sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of 2023 graduate Drew Dauphin who was taken from us in the New Orleans terror attack. Words cannot convey the sorrow the Auburn Family feels for Drew’s family and friends during this unimaginably difficult time. Our thoughts are with the Dauphin family and the families of all the victims of this senseless tragedy.”

At least 15 people were killed and dozens injured after a driver plowed a car into a large crowd on Canal and Bourbon Street in New Orleans in the early morning on New Year’s Day. The FBI identified the driver as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a U.S. citizen from Texas and Army veteran who was inspired by ISIS.
