Ammie Akin promises to donate 100% of congressional salary to District 7

The Republican nominee for Congress in Alabama’s Seventh District believes that her congressional salary will be better spent helping the local community if she wins in November.

Thursday, Ammie Akin announced today that, if elected, she will donate every dollar of her congressional salary to programs and services benefiting people in District 7. Her announcement comes after several weeks traveling the district, meeting with voters and hearing their needs.

“I’ve come to know many of you in this district. I understand your frustrations. I will personally invest in your future and show up for your community,” Akin said. “For too long, people in District 7 have felt forgotten while being asked to keep trusting the same approach. Families work hard but struggle to get ahead. Patients travel too far for care. Young people leave home to find opportunity. These communities deserve leadership that takes their concerns seriously and follows through.”

Ammie Akin won the GOP nomination for U.S. House District 7 with 73.3% against David Perry. Akin has 25 years of leadership across every level of Alabama’s education system, as a classroom teacher, a school administrator, and a college professor training the next generation of principals and superintendents.

“Too many people chase a title and a comfortable salary and forget who they are serving,” Akin contiued. “In this season of my life, it is my honor to make this commitment. If you send me to Congress, I will support the programs and services in our District 7 communities by giving back to the people.”

Akin’s campaign said this pledge reflects Akin’s broader vision for a district where hard work provides a path forward, children have a strong start, and families can build a future close to home.

“I want parents to have room in their budgets to save for their children’s future. I want seniors to get the care and benefits they depend on. I want young people to find good jobs here, put down roots, and raise their own families,” Akin said. “You should be able to trust the water coming from your tap, feel safe in your neighborhood, and know that someone will answer when you ask for help.”

The candidate said her priorities include tax relief for working families and small businesses; stronger rural healthcare; protection of Medicare and Social Security; manufacturing, apprenticeships, and workforce training; strong schools and a meaningful voice for parents; dependable energy and infrastructure; and support for law enforcement alongside fair treatment under the law. She also supports secure borders, a workable legal immigration system, and protection of constitutional freedoms.

“Whether you vote for me or someone else, I will work to serve you,” she said. “You should never need a political connection or a campaign contribution to be heard. When federal dollars are committed to a project, I’ll ask what was promised, what was delivered, and what still needs to be done. Our communities deserve improvements they can see and services they can count on.”

Akin is facing off against U.S. Rep. Terri Sewell (D-Birmingham) in the November general election.

“My salary alone cannot meet every need in this district. But it can help support people and programs doing meaningful work here at home. District 7 has been on the same path for too long. A different approach can help us build lasting results, and a future our children are excited to be part of,” she said. “Serving you is the job. I’ll show up, listen, and answer to you for the results.”
