Alabama’s commercial and recreational shrimping season in state waters will officially begin Monday, June 1, according to the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.

The department’s Marine Resources Division announced that all inside waters not permanently closed by law or regulation will open for shrimp harvesting beginning at 6 a.m.

The seasonal opening includes several popular coastal waterways and bays, including Mobile Bay, Bon Secour Bay, Mississippi Sound, Perdido Bay, Arnica Bay, Wolf Bay, and Little Lagoon.

The opening marks the beginning of one of Alabama’s longstanding Gulf Coast traditions, supporting both the seafood industry and recreational shrimpers during the summer months.

ADCNR oversees Alabama’s natural resources through its Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks, and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries divisions.
